Meet Brianna Marie, the photographer and storyteller behind The Stories We Carry.

Hi, I'm Brianna.

I'm a 27 year old photographer and storyteller based in Connecticut, and I've always believed there's so much more to a person than what we see on the surface.

Photography has given me the opportunity to witness some of the most meaningful moments in people's lives. But somewhere along the way, I started thinking about all the moments that happen long before someone stands in front of my camera. The stories that aren't captured in photographs. The experiences people carry quietly. The versions of themselves that the world may never get to know.

I became especially curious about older generations.

I would find myself looking at someone in their seventies, eighties, or nineties and wondering who they were when they were my age. Who was their first love? What did they dream about? What broke their heart? What did they survive? What would they tell their younger selves if they had the opportunity?

And perhaps most importantly, who are they today, beyond their age?

Those questions stayed with me.

For months, I couldn't stop thinking about creating something that would give people the opportunity to answer them. Eventually, I realized I didn't want this to remain just another idea.

That's how The Stories We Carry began.

But this project is about more than documenting the past. It's about understanding the human experience.

At 27, I haven't lived through decades of life the way many of the people I photograph have. But I've experienced enough of my own challenges to understand that our stories aren't always easy to tell. I know that some experiences change how we see ourselves, how we love, and how we move through the world.

And I know how meaningful it can be to feel genuinely heard.

I don't approach these conversations expecting every story to be beautiful, inspirational, or neatly resolved. Life isn't like that. People are complicated. We make mistakes. We carry grief, joy, regret, love, and memories that don't always fit into a perfect narrative.

I want there to be room for all of it.

My goal is to create a space where people can speak openly, without feeling like they need to make their experiences more comfortable for someone else to hear. A space where their voices remain their own.

Through intimate conversations and documentary photography, I hope to preserve something that goes beyond a portrait.

I want to capture the person behind it.

The person they used to be. The person they've become. And the parts of themselves they're still discovering.

Because I believe we have so much to learn from one another when we take the time to listen.

And maybe, by learning someone else's story, we'll recognize a little more of our own.
